Eight Record Board Improvements, Three Individual Champions at NCS Tri-Valley

Carrie Verdon (12) overcame illness to post the fastest 1600m time of the meet at Saturday's NCS Tri-Valley Championships, held in cool and windy conditions on the Granada High School track. The championship performance came just moments after Verdon decided not to drop the event in spite of severe cold symptoms.

The choice paid off as Verdon claimed the first of three individual titles for the Cougars. Teammate Eva Isaacs (10) picked up the other two after battling through her own adversity, competing on a tender foot still on the mend from last weekend's freak accident that saw the star thrower struck by an errant toss in the discus competition. Nevertheless, Isaacs was back in form on Saturday, winning both throwing events handily.

Olivia Warren (10) and Grace Orders (11) helped continue the girls' dominance in the distances, backing up Verdon's 1600m win with fourth and fifth place finishes. Warren's 5:04.9ce moves her to fifth all-time in school history.

The hurdle races provided two additional record board improvements as Rhea Jayachandran (12) set a new career best in the 100's while Meghan Nelson (11) punched her ticket for next week's NCS Meet of Champions with a 5th place clocking of 46.5ce in the 300m distance.

In only her third competition of the season, Jessie Hyde (12) improved her vault to eleven feet, moving up to third all-time while helping the DFAL sweep the top four places in the event. On the boys' side of the pole vault, Andres DelValle (12) surprised the field with a 13-6 personal best that landed him third place. Alex Kalsh (10) also cleared 13-6 to advance.

Boys' excitement on the track included a 200m heat win for Michael Hoffman (10), and a runner up performance by Matt Keeble in the 300m Hurdles.
