 Boys Rise to Meet Title at DFAL Finals, Dublin Foils Girls' Championship Streak

Finishing with 68 points, one point back of third place Dublin, the varsity girls' squad fell just short of a sixth consecutive league title at Friday's DFAL Championships.

Nevertheless, the team performance showed grit and determination with domination in the distance events, as well as breakthrough performances from Lindsay Wong (14) and Miranda Protzen (15) in the sprints and hurdles, respectively.

Wong's 62.65 run for the 400m was good enough for 5th place and advancement to next week's NCS Tri-Valley Championships.

Protzen, in one of the most impressive post season surges in recent memory, topped her trials breakthrough with a 48.18 clocking in the 300m Hurdles, the 9th fastest in team history.

Meanwhile, the boys' rekindled the magic of 2010, with an improbable rise from a fourth place regular season finish to a championship meet win. Powered by Brian Pfaff's (13) pair of runner-up hurdle races, along with Ryan Hoffman's (13) runaway wins in both the 400m and 200m, the Cougars shocked the favorites.

An early indicator was the 400m relay squads' impressive 43.88 finish, which topped the field and claimed the 8th spot on the school record board.
