Finnane Wins Arcadia "Rated" 3200m
After "hanging out" with the pack for the first 1600m of Friday evening's rated 3200m race at the Arcadia Invitational, Toni Finnane (15) decided she was feeling a little too good. The rookie senior proceeded to rocket away from the field in the 2nd half of the race. Turning her final lap in just under 76 seconds, she won the heat by nearly 50 meters. Finnane's time of 10:45.94 moves her up to 4th All-Time on the school record board.
Also running strong in the later stages of the race, Hana Sun (16) crossed the finish in 11:03.94, improving to 9th All-Time. After a cautious 1st mile that saw the junior standout cruising at the back of the pack, Sun passed 10 athletes, including several during her ferocious closing lap.
Mary Orders (15) ran poised in the seeded section of the 3200m, showing veteran patience as she maneuvered through traffic for much of the race. Her 11:00.29 performance is just 2 seconds off her career best.
Leach Sets New 3200m School Record; Hyatt Sparks Girls' DMR to 4th All-Time
Following up impressive results by her teammates in Friday evening's 3200m sections, Brighie Leach (15) executed an 8-lap effort that landed her a 5th place medal and the top spot in the Campolindo history books. In her first appearance at the nation's most competitive track meet, the senior veteran set herself up early in the lead pack, cruising through the mile mark in 5:08. She then closed in 5:12, including a 74 second last lap that saw her edge out section rival Morgin Coonfield of McKinleyville.
Leach's 10:20.94 for 3200m is 2 seconds ahead of the previous school record set in 2011 by Carrie Verdon.
Just before Leach's epic performance, the girls' distance medley relay team, bolstered by a fine 60.8 split from Julie Hyatt (17) on the 400m leg, as well as a 5-flat anchor effort from Toni Finnane (15) for 1600m, combined for the 4th best mark in school history.
