Trio Claims 3 of Top 5 in Fiesta 3200m; Leach Romps in Meet Record 10:41.59

After running side by side with Monte Vista's Brooke Starn through the first 4 laps in 5:15, Brighie Leach (15) pulled away to win Saturday's Dublin Distance Fiesta girls' 3200m race, earning the coveted sombrero, a meet record, and qualification to the Arcadia Invitational.

Leach's teammates Mary Orders (15) and Hana Sun (16) also rolled to impressive 8-lap marks to finish among the top 5. Orders dipped under the 11 minute mark, clocking 10:59.10, just a second off her career best. Sun crossed the line in 11:09.95, the 11th fastest 3200m time ever run by a Campolindo athlete.

The day began 8 hours earlier, with heats of the 1600m. Highlights included fine debut performances from freshmen Jessie Foxworthy (18) and Elizabeth Garcia (18), who clocked 5:49.86 and 5:58.84, respectively. Ethan Sauerberg (18) led the boys' rookies with a solid 5:07.91.

The 800m heats followed, where Niki Moore (17) turned in his best 2 lap effort, improving by almost 4 seconds to 2:01.08. Evan Amsden (16) crushed his pervious best, finishing in 2:15.37. Also impressive was the 2:21.53 heat winning effort of Josh Baier (17).

The 13 hour day was wrapped up with well paced career bests from Kevin Buckley (15) and Jared Yabu (17) in the boys' 3200m. Yabu's 9:45.66 bettered his previous time by a whopping 1-minute!

Will Buckley (16) showed the next best progress, knocking 22 seconds off his PR to finish in 11:37.96.
