Frosh Soph Squads Earn Championships, Arnswald, Moore Top Varsity Podium

With individual wins from Brandon Manty (20) in the 400m and long jump, a pole vault title from Anish Visht (20), an 800m victory by Pablo Nguyen (20), critical placing in the throws from Lucas Moore (19), and an avalanche of points provided by a surging distance squad led by 1600m and 3200m champion Cayden Hein (20), the frosh soph boys completed an improbable path to the league title at Saturday's DAL Finals.

The youngsters upended pre-meet favorite College Park, which had a healthy lead heading into the final 2 events. However, in the 3200m, the Cougars roared passed the Falcons in the standings, scoring 28 points with a sweep of the top 4 places.

The frosh soph girls' found themselves in a back-and-forth battle with Northgate for much of the meet. Paloma Hancock (20) was 1st to top the podium, winning the 1600m race in a new personal best of 5:33.93. Then, Natalie Arnswald (19) grabbed points in the 100 hurdles with a sub-18 second performance.

Remy Moran (19) continued her late-season rise with a 3rd place finish in the 300 hurdles while Lily Storrs (20) scored personal records in both the discus and triple jump to pick up points.

Again, it was the distance crew that put the Cougars over the top. Alicia Hober (20), runner up in the 1600m and winner of the 800m, paced Hancock for 7 laps at the front of the 3200m before edging ahead in the final sprint to take the title. Kira D'Iorio (19), who picked off 4 places in the final mile, landed in 3rd place.

In the varsity competition, Niki Moore (17) added a DAL 1600m victory to his list of career accomplishments before repeating as 800m champion. Jared Yabu (17) also scored in the 1600m race, improving his all-time best by 4 seconds.

The varsity girls' were inspired by a 300 hurdle win from Juliet Arnswald (17), who improved by 3 seconds over her previous season best.

The surprise of the day came from Ashley Thoms (18), who leaped into the Campolindo record books with a 34-foot triple jump good enough for 2nd place.

Finona Qumby (18) earned her ticket to the NCS Tri-Valley Meet with a 50-second finish in the 300 hurdles.
