Youngsters Win Again; Miles Dominates Distance Races while Doane Tops 400m

With a roster that continues to spread itself across more events each week, the frosh soph teams appear on track for another run at the DAL championship team titles. Wednesday's contest against the Mats featured an introduction to hurdles for several of the Cougar's rookies.

Leading the way over the flights in the 100m distance was Tracy Si (20), while Anastazia Lopez (21) claimed the victory in the 300m hurdle event. For the boys, Chongwoo Chang (21) followed veteran Declan Bhagwat across the finish line in the shorter race. Juan-Pablo Garcia (21) and Joel Kofman (20) picked up 1st and 2nd place points in the longer affair.

The 1600m races set the tone for the youngsters as Ellie Guthrie (20) won the girls' division in a career best 5:41.56. Dylan Gunn (21) followed with an improvement of his own, topping the boys' field in 4:40.93.

Emma Smith (21) and Terryal Bell (21) elevated their high jump game to sweep the top 2 spots for their squad. However, the high light in the field events was provided by Matai Bell (21), who collected victories in both the shot put and discus with new personal records.

The varsity competition was opened with a strong showing from Jenna Miles (18) and Alicia Hober (20) who finished 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the 1600m. Hober's 5:21.63 for 4 laps was a 10 second improvement.

Miles would then return to the track to set a blistering pace in the 3200m race. Her winning time of 10:55.03 is the 2nd fastest of her career and one of the top dual meet marks ever recorded in Cougar stadium.

Yet to find her limit, Maddy Doane (19) upset the 400m field, storming down the homestretch to hold off Miramonte's Jordyn Bryant and set another PR in the event.
