Humboldt Provides Cool Temperatures, Miles of Redwood Trails

Attending the HSU Distance Running Camp for the first time, Laurie Finnegan (08), Kelly Roycraft (07) and Lisa Rosenthal (09) discovered the cool secret behind the redwood curtain. With temperatures in the 60's and 70's for most of the week, Humboldt county offered the ideal setting for athletes to crank up their summer training.

In addition to the perfect conditions, HSU campers received plenty of valuable instruction from the elite staff of collegiate coaches and Olympic athletes. Lectures on core strength, running mechanics, endurance training principles, team building and motivation were squeezed in between the "wake-up" runs, mid-morning track clinics and afternoon long workouts.

Video analysis provided by Jonathan Spiros helped athletes make adjustments to their running form. State Championship coach, Steve Nesheim, of Mt. Shasta High School, gave tips on how to utilize social activities and a variety of games in the training schedule.
