Veteran Boys Open Big; Verdon Shines while Varsity Girls Struggle to Fourth

With DyeStatCal.com editor Rich Gonzales on hand, and the top athletes in each race being interviewed by Flotrack.org, the veteran boys took advantage of the lime light at Saturday's Ed Sias Invitational, posting the fastest varsity two-mile team time ever run by a Campolindo squad on the Hidden Valley Park course, bettering their 2007 effort by exactly 3:32.

Robert Pulfrod's (09) third place finish in the Small School Division of the Varsity Boys' competition establishes him as one of the "big dogs" in the NCS, earning a spot on the ESI All-Time performance list. On his heels, teammates Ross Geiger (09) and Michael Brondello (09) also finished among the top 10 to help the Cougars to an impressive 52:55 cumulative time for their first five finishers. Their average pace of 5:17 per mile was eclipsed only by section rival Petaluma, with a per mile average of 5:11.

The junior varsity squad, led by Paul Jackson (10), Jared Wong (09) and Jason Budge (09) topped the 24 team field with an astounding score of 35 points! In the frosh soph race Logan Coe (11) crushed his 2007 ESI time with an improvement of 2 minutes and 40 seconds. Vance Prescott (11) also made progress over last year, knocking 1:50 off his pervious ESI mark.

Meanwhile, the girls' squad managed to salvage a tough day of uncharacteristically mediocre team performances with some individual highlights. Carrie Verdon's (12) third place finish in the frosh soph division was good enough for third best on the team. And Ginny Johnson (10) took advantage of her first varsity race by setting a new personal best for two-miles.
