Laucher Leads Boys to Runner Up Finish; Farnan 4th for Girls as Cougars Advance to State Championships

After a slow start by the entire varsity boys' squad, allowing Petaluma, Las Lomas and Miramonte huge advantages through the first mile of the Hayward High School course, Dylan Laucher (11) began a steady charge that brought him within one place of the medal stand upon crossing the finish, and helped elevate his team back into contention. In the end the Cougars managed to top their DFAL rivals, though fell short of defending their 2008 title, finishing second behind last year's runners up.

The girls' competition was highlighted by Juliet Farnan's (12) breakthrough 19:25 clocking for the three mile distance. Along with Carrie Verdon's (12) third place finish, and a 47 second improvement over last season's mark by Grace Orders (11), the girls' team managed to stay ahead of Acalanes for another week.

Both squads' performances were good enough for advancement to the CIF State Championships on Saturday, November 28th.
