Goltra, Leach Debut; Varsity Teams Run Away with Titles at Roughrider Invite

Adain Goltra (14), after sitting out the first half of the season due to CIF transfer eligibility rules, finally donned a Campolindo jersey and toed the line with his new teammates. From the gun the junior took the lead in the small school division of the Roughrider Invitational, storming through the first mile of the Woodward Park course in 4:49. After a second mile in 5:12, Goltra closed well to finish in 15:35. The mark is third All-Time by a Cougar harrier on the state championship course.

Close behind was Adam Hathaway (13), who cross the line in second place in 16:04. Kevin Fong (13) had his best race of the year to finish fourth for the squad.

For the varsity girls', Rachel Johnson (15) battled with eventual winner Mikayla Florez of Riverbank through much of the course, trading the lead several times. Johnson held on for second place in 18:48, an improvement over her 2011 state meet performance.

In third place was Brighie Leach (15), who improved her course best by nearly a minute after returning from illness. Like Goltra, the race was Leach's first of the season, and provided a welcome spark for a squad that looks to rally for another post season run.

Captain Haley Shipway (14) was back in action as well, cracking the twenty minute mark to take 6th place.

Also impressive was Emily Lawrie (16), who finished 4th for the team and 10th overall in her first varsity appearance.
