DFAL
Center Meet #2 RESULTS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE
Boys Stay Undefeated; Knights Slay Girls JV, Varsity at Final Regular Season Meet Emma Ishida (16) improved by nearly a minute on the 1.9 mile Shadow Cliffs course at Wednesday's DFAL center meet, leading her Frosh Soph Girls' squad to victory. Claire Cimino (17), Amalia Righelhuth (17), Erika Riepe (17) and Ann Cherayil provided a pack of support, clustered together in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th place, respectively. The performance was yet another giant step forward for Righelhuth and Riepe in particular, as both knocked over 45 seconds from their previous Shadow Cliffs mark. The sweep of league rivals maintains a perfect record for the Frosh Soph Girls as they head into November 9th's League Championship Meet. Also maintaining perfect records, the Varsity Boys, Junior Varsity Boys and Frosh Soph Boys all turned in dominating efforts. Jonathan Semenza (16) took over the frosh soph "top gun" title with a meet victory. With a dramatic surge through the second half of the race, teammate Miguel Baliwag (16) moved up to 4th place overall and crushed his month old course record by 30 seconds. Sean Pappa (15) hung tough to finish 5th in the junior varsity race, ensuring another 15 point team score. In the varsity boys' race, Nathaniel Sauerberg (16) cut 20 seconds off his course record to improve the Cougars' pack margin. The sophomore sensation was 8th place overall. With several top athletes sidelined, Sarah Cella (16), Mary Orders (15) and Robin Powell (16) battled valiantly to defend the Varsity Girls' winning streak. Continuing her march up the depth chart, Cella took over the front running for the team; considering that Cella was not in the varsity lineup at the first center meet on September 25, her 3rd place finish against the entire field is quite astounding. In spite of their noble efforts, the Varsity Girls were defeated by Las Lomas, 26-31. Likewise, the Junior Varsity Girls' team fell victim to the Knights. Nevertheless, highlights included Liz Timmons' (16) heroic 50 second improvement. In spite of the losses, all six squads remain in contention for league titles.
