Orienteering Championships RESULTS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE
LoPresti Engineers Orienteering Victory Wearing a railroad themed costume, complete with train whistle and engineer's cap, Matthew LoPresti (17) used superior cartographical skill along with sound fitness to outmaneuver his teammates at Saturday's annual Orienteering Championships at Hidden Valley Park. LoPresti plotted the fastest route of the day, finishing ahead of veteran division runner-up Jack Strong (17) and 2013 champion Will Buckley (16). The course was comprised of 12 check points located randomly throughout the park which athletes could visit in any order. Nadia Aquil (15) was the veteran girls' winner while Isabella Chao (18) posted the fastest girls' time to take the rookie crown. After a surprise encounter with a nasty mud pit, Arthur Goldblatt (18) pulled himself free to earn the Hard Core award. Goldblatt was also one of several competitors who opted to swim across the lake, though whether or not it saved time was questionable. The 2014 edition enjoyed impressive wardrobe choices, including Sam Lee's (15) "cross country party train" concoction. Sadly, the ensemble was more fashion than function, as Lee struggled out on the course. PHOTOS OF THE 2014 ORIENTEERING CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE HERE!
