Chao Rockets to Time Trial Record 4:57; Chambers Bests Seed Mark by 8 Seconds With a thrilling final lap, where she challenged eventual winner Cameron Iniguez-Reyes (19) down the backstretch, Isabella Chao (18) laid claim to the fastest 1600m time ever run by a female athlete at the annual team time trial event held in Bob Wilson Stadium on Saturday. Chao's runner-up mark of 4:57.53 was good enough for 12th place overall at the event, and stands as 4th best 4-lap performance in school history. In the penultimate race, Casey Chambers (18) continued his rise with an 8 second improvement over his seed time, finishing in 4:51.51 to earn the "most improved" title for 2017. Thibault Gourlin (18) won his heat in 4:42.71 to score the 2nd-best improvement of the day, and a well deserved Arcadia backpack. Other highlights included a heat win by Alex Ly (21), who looked sharp in holding off a challenge from runner-up Sabastian Fojut (21). Gracie Woidat (21) used a late-race kick to overtake Kira D'Iorio (19) in heat #4. The most coemptive finish was not surprisingly heat #8, which saw Alica Hober (20) and Paloma Hancock (20) battle past Eric Fossen (19) in the final stretch. The trio finished within 0.60 seconds of one another. Mason Gruebele (21) showed a new sense of commitment in winning heat #6, holding off an impressive bid from Chloe Guthrie (19), who crossed the line in 5:33.94.
