Frosh Girls Rise through Ranks; Lashkari, Morasch Post 3-Mile Bests at Newhall

Completing 6 weeks of cross country training and racing, the newest members of the girls' team shined at Saturday's 25th edition of the De La Salle Invitational at Newhall Park in Concord. While Ellie Buckley (23) continued her front-running ways, Anna Wilson (23), Camille Yabu (23) and Bryn Hober (23) each knocked plenty of time off their previous 2-mile bests to help their squad land the runner-up team score, just behind an impressive effort from Redwood High School.

At the 3-mile distance, Vishal Lashkari (21) took advantage of the new format of the junior varsity boys' race to obliterate his previous personal record by 1 minute and 14 seconds, breaking the 18 minute mark for the 1st time. This was followed up by a 50-second improvement from Sam Morasch (20) in the varsity boys' division.

Cayden Hein (20) set the fastest pace of the day, finishing 11th in the loaded varsity boys' field. His time of 15:49 is now 4th on the Campolindo all-time list for the course.

In the frosh soph boys' competition, Rhys Pullen (22) and John Halstead (22) both surpassed their pervious career best for 2 miles, though the squad was upended by league rival Acalanes in the team scoring.

The breakthrough performance of the day came from Lily Jones (23) in the frosh soph and junior varsity combined race. The determined freshman lowered her 2-mile time from just a week earlier by 1 minute and 31 seconds.
