24 Harriers Beat Track Times at 1st-Ever Mid-Season Mania 3200m Invitational Jumping onto the oval, the Cougars competed against athletes from 10 visiting schools in mixed-gender 3200 meter heats seeded strictly by time at Wednesday evening's Mid-Season Mania event. Hosted in Campolindo's stadium, the harriers took advantage of the unique opportunity to run for time on the track in the middle of the cross country season. Paloma Hancock (20) turned in the fastest girl's mark of the night, finishing with a flurry to overtake teammate Ellie Buckley (23) on the final lap. Hancock's time of 11:18.67 is a 4-second improvement over her best spring-season 3200m performance. The boys' competition came down to another final homestretch battle between veteran Dylan Gunn (21) and rookie Alex Lodewick (23). This time around it was the youngster who inched ahead at the line. Lodewick clocked 9:34.60 while Gunn held on for 2nd place in 9:34.80. All told, 24 athletes eclipsed their previous 3200m track times, including Ally Loyet (22), who knocked a gaudy 1 minute and 14 seconds from her freshman-year best. Also notable was Emma Smith's (20) 11:24.13 effort, which landed her the 3rd-fastest female time of the night and lowered her personal best by 45 seconds. The most improved boys' performance was turned in by Alan Pierrat (22). The junior closed well to break the tape in 10:33.35, a healthy 37 seconds faster than his time time from the previous spring.
