Cougar Contingent Captures Large School Crowns on Woodward Park 5k Course

Competing in the large school division for the 1st time at the Roughrider Invitational on Fresno's Woodward Park course, site of the California State Championships, the Campolindo varsity squads earned well-deserved victories.

Alicia Hober (20) led the girls' team to its title with a new course best of 18:49. The senior finished 5th overall, 5 places ahead of teammate Ellie Buckley (23), who finished 10th in 19:00.

With Paloma Hancock (20), Sophie Webster (21) and Emma Smith (20) also landing top-20 finishes, the Cougars tallied 67 points to stay well ahead of Granada and Whitney, the other contenders in the 30-team field.

The most improved girl was Katie Strohmeyer (21). The hard-working junior knocked 1 minute and 40 seconds off her 2018 performance on the course. Zoe Theulier (23) also shined after a tough week of illness, besting her previous 5k time by 24 seconds to finish 39th.

The boys were bolstered by a surprising debut from Dylan Mitchley (20). The senior transfer from South Africa moved into the #4 position for the varsity squad, finishing 26th in a time of 16:24.

Dylan Cronin (20) also helped fuel the boys' success with a sub-16 minute performance just 2 places back of front runner Dylan Gunn (21). Alex Lodewick (23) crossed the line in 16:09 to finish 14th, giving the Cougars a scoring advantage over runners up Highland High School.

Easton Means (20) and Jack Pieper (21) both popped off with huge career PR's. Pieper's 17:03 mark is a 10% improvement over the 18:58 he ran last year in the same race.
