Halstead Battles Bushes, Earns Hard Core Award at Annual Orienteering Event

While he may not have found all of the control points during Saturday's Orienteering Championships at Hidden Valley Park, John Halstead (22) impressed his teammates. After barging through stickers and thorns, the slashed and bloodied sophomore still managed to log his minutes before accepting the Hard Core award.

Though a senior and veteran of 2 seasons of track, Emma Smith (20) out paced the rest of the rookie girls' division in her 1st year on the cross country team to earn a place on the perpetual plaque.

Jack Williams (21) was the overall champion and winner of the veteran boys' division. The veteran girls' were led by Angeni Lieben (22), who finished just ahead of runner-up Alicia Hober (20).

This year's course featured 2 control points located outside the boundaries of the park, as well as multiple opportunities for competitors to show off their tree climbing skills (or lack there of).
