1600m Time Trial RESULTS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE Rookie Improvements Light up Track Trial The newest editions to the Cougar running family continued to demonstrate rapid improvement at Saturday evening's 1600 meter time trial effort under the lights at Bob Wilson Stadium. Frosh standouts Makena Weberski (24) and Shea Volkmer (24) topped the girls' performance list with new personal bests for the 4-lap distance, finishing 1st and 5th respectively in the 7th heat of the day. The parade of freshman improvements also included a 6:08.1 effort from Kate Kabenina (24) and a sub 6:20 performance from Daisy Penney (24). Mia DeLuca (24) and Molly Stephens (24) also broke the 7-minute barrier by considerable margins to finish among the top half of the girls' field. All told, 13 freshman girls showed progress over their previous attempt at the distance. Reid Lalli (24) was the top performing freshman boy, crossing the finish in 5:36.0 to take 3rd place in his heat behind juniors Alejandro Canales (22) and Thomas Singh (22). Veterans Owen Lekki (21), Connor McGhee (23) and Kevin Ma (23) posted marks that exceeded their 1600 meter performances from last fall. Lekki held off Alex Lodewick to win the final race of the day in 4:35.3.
