Girls Rock Mid-Season 3200m Invite with 9 under 11:30; Dow Drops 3-Minute PR Casey Dow (23) continued his unprecedented growth at Wednesdays's Mid-Season Mania 3200m Invitational by dropping 3 minute and 23 second from his 2022 time. Dow was the 14th finisher in his race, wedged in the middle of 4 teammates, including Daisy Penney (24), Rachel Moen (24), and Anya Houston (26), each of whom posted their own impressive marks as members of the deepest 8-lap squad in school history. The unique break from hill and dale during the fall cross country season featured 19 mixed-gender heats, seeded strictly by time. Hosted under the lights in Bob Wilson Stadium with calm, cool conditions, it proved to be the perfect environment for the abundance of varsity girls' contenders to flex their track talent. In addition to the aforementioned trio, the Cougars offered up inspired performances from Quinn Guthrie (23), Sloan Pullen (25), Kate Kabenina (24), and Caroline McCool (23). 5 of the 7 had previously run 3200m cross country time trials and collectively accounted for 3 minutes and 20 seconds of improvement. The times for these 7 athletes ranged from McCool's 11:10 to Houston's 11:34, and yet the biggest guns in Campo's arsenal had yet to step on the track. The historic evening was capped by sub-11 finishes from Shea Volkmer (24) and Ellie Buckley (23) to bring the 10-athlete average down to 11:14.40! Other significant gains were made by Mia Lawrence (24), who knocked 28 seconds from her previous best, and Bryn Hober (23), who lowered her time by 13 seconds. Beyond Dow's improvement, the boys' squad enjoyed 94 and 93-second PR's from Tai Lee (23) and Alessandro Paolieri (23), respectively. Among the varsity elite, Alex Thomasson (24) posted his 1st sub-10 while Alex Lodewick (23) finished 2nd overall in 9:19.41.
