Watson, Bayuk Blaze 800m; Holmes Kicks Down Double; Murillo Rolls to Sixth All-Time in Invitational 3200m

Catherine Murillo (07) finished off a fantastic day of distance racing at Edward Stadium on Friday evening by knocking 20 seconds off her personal best for the eight lap affair. Passing 12 runners in the final mile, the savvy senior moved from 15th to 3rd. Her finishing time of 11:16.2ce moves Murillo to sixth All-Time on the Cougar record board!

Leading the formidable contingent of Campo sprinters, Rebecka Watson (08) and Sarah Juram (07) rocketed to 2:33.5ce and 2:35.7ce respectively for their first forays into the two lap event. Other 800m highlights included a heat winning effort from Max Bayuk (10) and a surprising 2:13.3ce for Stephen Maurer (10).

The performance that had the Cougars screaming on the rail came from rookie sensation Garret Holmes (09), who first unloaded a 2:06.1ce in the 800m before doubling back to win his 1600m heat in dramatic fashion. The 4:41.9ce is tops on the team for the season to date, and places him on the short list of sophomore superstars in the DFAL!
