Cox, Geiger, Isaacs Earn Runner-up Honors; Twenty Cougars Qualify for NCS Meet of Champions

In spite of windy conditions, the Cougar distance squad dominated their events at Saturday's NCS Tri-Valley Area Championships, hosted by Granada High School. Eight endurance athletes qualified for next week's NCS Meet of Champions, led by 1600m runner up Ross Geiger (09), and 3200m runner up Nate Cox (09). Cox' mark of 9:33.5ce moves him to eighth all-time on the Campolindo record board.

In addition to Cox, the Cougars showed their depth in the 3200m races by advancing three individuals in each division, including Sara Mostatabi (11), who finished ninth in her race, but cracked the at-large time standard with an eight second personal best!

In the field, Eva Isaacs (10) increased her third all-time mark for the shot put with a runner-up toss of 36-4.5. Meanwhile, both Jessie Hyde (12) and Alex Kalish (10) managed qualification in pole vault. Kalish's new person best of 13-2 vaults him to sixth all-time in school history!

Other impressive efforts came from Thomas Walker (09), who finished out his spring season with a personal best in the discus, and Meghan Nelson's (11) new career mark of 49.0ce in the 300m hurdles, which lands her in the ninth all-time position.

In all, twenty Cougar stars advanced to next Saturday's NCS Meet of Champions at UC Berkeley's Edwards Stadium for a chance at one of the four CIF State Championship berths.
