Geiger Rolls to 6th All-Time, State Meet Berth; 4th Place Shot Put Mark for Isaacs; Boys' 1600 Relay 5th All-Time

It was an All-Time performance for the Cougars at the 2009 edition of the NCS Meet of Champions on Friday and Saturday at UC Berkeley's Edwards Stadium. Taking advantage of the competition from the best in the section, Campolindo athletes exploded for nine top-ten marks and two CIF State Championship berths.

On Friday, Eva Isaacs (10) became the first state meet qualifier with a 36-3.5 shot put heave that landed her in fourth place. Meanwhile, Jessie Hyde (12) equaled her season best in the pole vault to finish her rookie year as an MOC Medallist!

Both 1600 Relay teams ran their way into the record books with spectacular trials performances on Friday sparked by sensational splits from Ketti Salemme (09) for the girls and Matt Keeble (10) on the boys' team. The varsity boys' mark is the fastest run by a Campolindo squad in twelve years!

Saturday's affair was dominated by the distance crew, with monster performances in all three endurance events. Ross Geiger (09) began the afternoon by crushing his previous 1600m best by four seconds to earn a trip to Fresno. Olivia Warren (10) followed with a new personal best in the 800m, before the 3200m runners brought the house down with the final three All-Time marks of the day.

After a recalled start that saw Robert Pulford (09) dropped to the track, spiked, bleeding and shoeless, the tough senior leader brushed off what would later be diagnosed as a fractured ankle to finish the race in an astounding 9:37.0ce. Teammates Nate Cox (09) and Michael Brondello (09), perhaps inspired by Pulford's heroic effort, also ran career bests, with Cox dropping ten seconds off his time from a week earlier to become the fifth fastest Campolindo 3200m runner in school history.

The day was capped by another historic performance, as Carrie Verdon (12) Grace Orders (11), and Sara Mostatabi (11) showcased a 3200m triple threat that has the rest of the section in awe as the 2009 cross country season approaches. Verdon climbed to third on the Campolindo record board with her 11:01.7ce finish, while Mostatabi's 11:27.4ce was good enough for tenth.
