Area Distance/Sprint Festival RESULTS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE
March 13, 2010 In just the second 1600m race of her career, Oliva Warren (10) surprised an elite field that included state meet qualifiers Emily Shearer and Alycia Cridebring, to post the fastest time at Friday evening's Dan Gabor Distance Festival. Her 5:16.91 is the tenth best performance in school history. Other evening highlights included sensational early season times for Dylan Laucher (11) and Doug Chudler (10) in the 3200m. The long distance duo capitalized on perfect conditions to set new personal bests of over ten seconds. Vinson Compestine (12) and Keith Geiger (12) also debuted in the duce with huge improvements. Compestine won his heat with a 49 second jump while Geiger knocked off 48 seconds from hi s 2009 best. Carrie Verdon (12) began her school record quest right where she left off last season, pacing out an 11:03.98 effort that puts her among the section leaders. Earlier in the afternoon the rains were fierce, adding an extra element of adversity for 1600m runners. Nevertheless, Cougar athletes like Erin Ross (12), Sydney Coe (13) and Marissa Chan (13) executed race plans with confidence! The underclass trio dominated their heat during the heaviest downpour of the day, each breaking the six minute mark for the first time. Conditoins at Saturday's Sprint and Jump Festival were good enough for Alex Kalish (10) to move up to 5th on the All-Time list with a 13-6 vault clearnance.
