Joyce, Verdon Roll to Record Board Performances, Lead 3200m Domination at Friday's Dan Gabor Distance Festival

Thomas Joyce (12) clung to front running section top-guns Ben Eversole and Jeff Bickert through six laps of Friday's Dan Gabor 3200m elite heat, hitting the 1600m mark in 4:37. While Castro Valley's Eversole stretched out his lead, Joyce challenged College Park's Bickert on the 7th lap, then again with 180m to go, eventually gaining the advantage and claiming 2nd place, as well as a 45 second improvement over his 2010 best.

The 9:25.57 mark catapults him to 7th on the All-Time list, and puts him on the short list of Northern California premier distance talents.

Joyce's effort alone is cause for excitement, but with six teammates under 10:11, and four breaking the ten minute barrier, the Cougars enjoyed the most dominating 3200m team performance in school history. Vinson Compestine (12) negative spilt (4:52/4:48) to finish 5th in 9:40.43, and Dylan Laucher (11) held on after a bold first mile to finish in 9:42.69. Keith Geiger (12) used even splits to crack ten minutes by two tenths of a second.

This impressive finale was preceded by Carrie Verdon's (12) meet record shattering 10:39.86. The mark also lowered her own school record by four seconds.

Verdon held off talented Castro Valley rival Kelsey Santisteban, who followed stride for stride through 2400m before the Campolindo junior turned up the heat and gapped her opponent. Closing in 34 seconds over the final 200m, Verdon eventually finished with an eight second margin.

Teammates Rachel Meadows (12) and Juliet Farnan (12) also set personal bests to finish 8th and 9th, respectively.

Other highlights included Ian Gilbert's (14) 5:10.31 to lead a fine rookie crew in the 1600m while Kendall Coffee (13), Gaby Griko (12) and Rachel Duncan (13) broke the 2:40 mark in the 800m.

Macy Tops Century Mark in Discus; Coffee, Goodrich Improve over 2010 Sprint Times at Saturday's Sprint Fest

Margaret Macy (12) added snap to her release, along with two more feet to her discus mark at Saturday's Dan Gabor sprint and field event festival, hosted by Amador Valley High School. The 100 foot throw moves Macy to 7th on the Campolindo record board.

Meanwhile, Gryphon Goodrich (13) made improvements in each of his three events, including a two second drop in the 400m and a new pole vault personal best at 9-9. Also making sold progress was Kendall Coffee, who broke 65 seconds for her one lap effort.
