Quint Vaults 10 Feet, Daum Flings Disc 100 feet to Hold off Dons' Challenge

As the shadows lengthened and results filtered in at Wednesday's showdown against rival Acalanes, it became apparent that the varsity girls' score would come down to the wire. Lindsay Wong (14) stepped onto the triple jump runway knowing the Cougars had precious few opportunities left to squeeze out the points they needed to keep their championship hopes alive.

Fortunately, the nimble junior managed to produce a life time best and earn first place in the event. Her teammate, Kate Ryles (15), making her debut on varsity, also came through with a 29 foot mark to push the Dons' best jumper to third.

Simultaneous to these clutch performance, Maddie Daum (15) was experiencing a breakthrough in the discus, where she eclipsed the 100 foot mark for the first time, and moved into second place.

The victory was finally clinched by the team's two superstars, as Hadley Swanson (13) soared to 5-4 in high jump and Brighie Leach (15) pulled away for the win in the 3200m.

Earlier in the day, Lily Quint (14) won the pole vault with a new personal best of 10 feet. The height lands her fifth on the All Time Record list!

With the team win, the varsity girls move to 5-0 on the season. A victory against Dougherty Valley in the final regular season meet on May 1, along with a championship meet win can earn the team a fifth consecutive DFAL title. So far, the squad appears to be on track.

Both frosh soph teams also enjoyed success against their blue and white opponents. Kristy Chiang (15) extended her long jump best to 14-3 while Rebecca Seeley (16) cleared 6-6 in the vault and set a new personal record in the 100m

Auveen Maghsoodnia (15) also showed progress in the discus, where she added three feet to her best mark.

David Kuckuk (15) dropped a handful of seconds off his 800m time, winning in 2:11. Grant Chen (15) improved his discus best by two feet, and Nick Bishop (16) improved by over 15 seconds in the 1600m. John Wong (15) made big moves up the PR list in both shot put and discus.

While the varsity boys came up short in the team scoring, notable individuals included Adam Hathaway (13), who snuck under 10 minutes in the 3200m after gaping the field in the first mile. Ryan Hoffman (13) made his season debut with a fine 11.50 victory in the 100m.
