Wirth Soars to School Record; Cougars Win 7 of 8 Contests in League Opener

In her first competition of the season, Kelley Wirth (15) improved by over 5 inches to set a new school record in the girls' high jump. The mark, verified by parent officials, is 1.5 inches higher than the previous record set in 1996 by Alyson Keener and equalled in 2011 by Hadley Swanson.

Wirth's jump, along with domination by the distance squad, helped the varsity girls' fend off a talented Dublin attack. The Cougars scored 77 points to the Gael's 59.

The frosh soph girls' were carried by a flurry of new personal bests, including improvements in both hurdle races for Ashley Lee (17) and Marla Wong (17). Sarah Ryles (17) added points in the field events with significant progress in the shot and discus, as well as a 4 foot clearance in high jump.

Clare Ahearn (17) also contributed in the field events, leaping over 30 feet in the triple jump and clearing 6-6 in the pole vault.

The frosh soph boys' came out winners, inspired by Ray Diaz' (17) exciting kick to a 4:46 clocking in the 1600m and a consistent performance in the hurdles and pole vault for Alex Capurro (17).

Though the varsity boys' took a tough loss to Dublin, Jack Shurtz (15) provided a historic highlight, launching the discus 151 feet to move up on the All-Time record list.
