Sprint Records Fall as Cougars Host Las Lomas in Final Home DAL Dual of Season

With sunny skies and a stead northerly wind, conditions were optimal for short sprinters at Wednesday's 2nd DAL dual meet of 2019. Several impressive early-season marks were posted by the Cougars as they topped the visiting Las Lomas Knights in 3 divisions.

Helping the frosh-soph girls' squad to its victory, Amelia Asuncion (22) set new personal bests with a 1st-time toss over 20 feet in the shot put and a 7-foot improvement in discus. Big gains were also made by Namratha Kasalanati (22) in the hurdle races while Jeanette Lavoie (22) added 6 inches to her pole vault PR.

The varsity girls were carried once again by Maddy Doane (19). The 2nd-year veteran posted a new school record in the 100m race, then returned to the track to face the Knight's super-star sophomore Sophia Pardo in an epic rematch of last season's league champion and runner up in the 200m.

With a legal tailwind of 1.2 meters per second, the pair posted 2 of the fastest times in the state. Doane managed to hold the lead through the tape, clocking 24.99, which is currently the 5th best mark in the state.

Other impressive performances included Sara Tabibian's (22) 50.29 win in the 300 hurdles and a 3-foot improvement in the triple jump by Olivia de Paschalis (18).

Kyle Moe (21) continued his rise in the throwing events with another big improvement in discus. Arik Nashan (21) made strides in the shot put, cracking 25 feet for the 1st time, while Hardesty Dolge (22) cleared all flights safely in the 110 hurdles to better his previous mark by 5 seconds.

The varsity boys' competition featured PR's for Eric Fossen (19) in the shot put and discus. In adding 8 feet to his discus best, the senior eclipsed the century mark for the 1st time.
