Nelson Sets Meet Record as Cougars Tune up for Post Season at Final Invitational

In the final event of the day-long Granada Distance & Sprint Festival at Granada High School in Livermore, Garrett Nelson (23) claimed the 200m meet record, finishing just ahead of teammate Josh Myers (23), who himself won the 100m race earlier in the day. The pair traded positions atop the short-sprint rankings to lead a string of impressive performances heading into the final week of the Diablo Athletic League regular season.

Making the greatest gains over their previous season bests, Audrey Sakamoto (24) heaved the shot to a distance of 28 feet and 4 inches, an improvement of over 5 feet, and Laurel Tringe (24) lowered her 100m time by over a second.

Quinn Ahearn (23) also found success in the short sprint, cracking the 12-second barrier for the 1st time. The senior also dropped his 110 hurdle time to a career best 17.09.

Also in the hurdles, Liam Hearn (24) broke the 19-second mark, finishing in 18.92.

The day began with impressive growth displayed by Emily Koehler (26), Meeran Gill (25), Anjali Rao (26), and Yun-Yun Wong (26), in the girls' 3200m competition.
