Nelson Improves 9th-All Time 100m Mark as Cougars Sweep Divisions against Rival

Garrett Nelson (23) streaked to a new personal best in the 100m sprint, winning the varsity division in 11.16 at Campolindo's 1st league competition of the 2023 spring season. Nelson doubled back to win the 200m in addition to anchoring the victorious 400 relay squad as the Cougars dominated their hosts at the Miramonte track & field stadium.

In fact, each of the Cougars' 4 divisional squads came away with victories at Wednesday's competition.

Additional gains were made by Josh Myers (23), who won the varsity boys' 400m in a career best 51.63, and Alex Thomasson (24), who shaved nearly 9 seconds from his 1600m PR. In the field, Bryce McLaverty (24) and Julian Blumberg (25) claimed the top 2 spots in the discus field with throws of 117 feet and 114 feet, respectively.

The girls' improvements were highlighted by a 2:43.68 clocking in the 800m for Mia Lawrence (24) and a 5:04.61 win for Shea Volkmer (24) in the 1600m. Volkmer's mark moves her to 13th on the school record list.

In the field, Sifat Sarang (26) added nearly 10 feet to her career best in the discus.
