Relays Revise Record Lists at Mt. SAC; Testa Places 3rd in Stacked Hurdle Field

A handful of Campolindo's top athletes traveled south to compete in the 63rd annual Mt. SAC Relays hosted by Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut over the weekend of April 14 and 15, including the Cougars' vaunted distance runners, who kicked off the 2-day affair with spectacular efforts in the 4 x 1600m invitational heats on Friday evening.

The girls' "A" team of Shea Volkmer (24), Quinn Guthrie (23), Kate Kabenina (24), and Ellie Buckley (23) separated from the field early and never looked back, posting the top time in the nation for the event and ascending to 5th on the school record list. With a solid lead-off leg turned in by Caroline McCool (23), the Cougars' "B" team also finished among the top 10 in the race.

Friday's competition was capped by the boys' distance quartet of Alex Thomasson (24), Blake Webster (23), Connor McGhee (23), and Alex Lodewick (23), who turned in an exceptionally consistent effort while facing some of the country's very best programs in the 4 x 1600 relay. In fact, the race featured the nation's 9 best marks posted in the event during the spring season. The Cougars finished 7th in 17:42.77, which eclipses the previous school record set in 2012 by one hundredth of a second!

Pinkie Schnayer (24) kicked off competition on Saturday with a 111-2toss of the discus followed by a 33-foot shot put performance. Mari Testa (23) followed with a 3rd-place finish in the invitational 100 hurdle race. Her time of 14.51 currently ranks #10 in California.

Distance runners returned to the track Saturday evening for the distance medley relay. Volkmer provided a lead-off splint of 3:40 for 1200m before Meagan Kennedy (23) split 58.1 on the 400m leg. Guthrie and Buckley closed out the relay, which finished 4th in 12:09.89, good enough for #4 on the all-time list.

Lodewick handed off the baton near the front of the boys' field to help his squad challenge the school record. Their finishing time of 10:28.94 was less than a second behind the all-time mark.
