No Fooling: Speedsters Set New 100m Records Once, Twice, 3 Times at West Coast Relays

With excellent conditions that included a persistent yet mostly legal tail wind on the home stretch at Saturday's West Coast Relays hosted in Buchanan High School's Memorial Stadium, the Cougars recorded one of the greatest sequences of sprint performances in school history.

In the open 100m event, Mari Testa (23) began the record-board run with an elite heat victory. Breaking the tape in 11.99, the performance is the first sub-12 second finish for a Campolindo girl and breaks the old record by 5 one hundredths of a second.

This was followed just minutes later by Garrett Nelson's (23) record-setting victory in his own 100m heat. Aided by a 3.0 wind reading, the senior lowered the boys' all-time mark to 10.89. However, his reign was short lived, as teammate Josh Myers (23) streaked to a 10.77 clocking to win the following race with a 2.0 meter-per-second wind, the maximum allowable for legal marks.

Both Myers and Nelson overtook the previous 100m school record of 10.94ch which had stood for 53 years. That standard was set by John Haley (69) in 1969.

And that was just the beginning.

Meagan Kennedy (23) subtracted another full second from her 400m time to finish runner-up in her heat and ascend to 5th on the school record board. Alex Lodewick (23) also climbed to 5th in school history with a 4:17.31 finish in the elite 1600m event. His teammates Connor McGhee (23), Blake Webster (23), and Alex Thomasson (24) also turned in major improvements to give the Cougars a quartet of milers under 4:27.

In the girls' 1600m competition, Ellie Buckley (23) broke the 5-minute barrier for the 1st time. Her 4:55.70 finish is now 4th all-time. Sloan Pullen (25) and Rachel Moen (24) set their own 1600m season-best marks by cracking 5:20.

The girls' and boys' 4x800 relay teams closed out the spectacular day with 5th and 6th all-time performance, respectively.
