Boys' 4x800 Relay Finishes 5th; Moore Tops 11-10, and Girls' 4x400 Cracks 4 Minutes at CIF State Championships

Hosted in Veterans' Memorial Stadium on the Buchanan High School campus, the 2026 edition of the greatest track & field championships in the nation, included podium finishes from the school-record-setting boys' 4x800 relay and #2 all-time pole vaulter Sophia Moore (28) as well as a clutch sub-4 minute performance from the girls' 4x400 relay squad.

The girls' sprinters began the weekend by posting yet another sub-48 second mark in the 4x100 relay. Sophomore duo Emma Stimmler (28) and Moore propelled their squad to an impressive start against the best in the state. Moore followed with a clearance of 11-8 in the pole vault trials to advance as the only sophomore in Saturday's finals.

Also on Friday, Claire Andrzejek (26) finished 4th in her trial heat of the 800m to earn a position in the 12-competitor final.

The trials wrapped up with freshman Ilinca Galatanu (29) answering the call for the girls' 4 x 400 relay, improving her split to 62 seconds and helping the squad sneak under the 4-minute mark. Their 3:59.48 clocking is only the 5th mark under 4 minutes in school history.

Saturday's finals were highlighted by a new PR for Moore in the pole vault. Her 11 foot, 10 inch clearance was good enough for 7th overall and a step on the podium.

The weekend was capped by an outstanding group effort in the boys' 4x800 relay, where the Cougars avenged their 2nd-place finish to Maria Carrillo at the Meet of Champions, breaking their own school record to claim 5th place as the best squad from Northern California. Cody De La Cruz (26), the lone senior on the team, anchored in 1:55.44 to fend off challengers down the final stretch.
