Championship FINALS RESULTS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE Record Relays Spark Varsity Title Sweep; Ehrhorn Breaks 57-Year Old 800m Mark While negative wind readings plagued the short sprints and hurdles for a 2nd consecutive Saturday, full-lap efforts for the Cougars resulted in multiple record board revisions at the Diablo Athletic League Championship finals on May 9 in their home stadium. Kicking off the affair was the varsity girls' 4x100 relay squad, which lowered its own all-time best by nearly 2-tenths to win in 47.81. This was quickly followed by a more unexpected record-breaking performance from the varsity boys' 4x100 relay, which finished in 43.11, shaving 3-one hundredths from the previous top mark set in 2023. The time was also good enough for 2nd place, a considerable improvement over their #5 ranking coming into the meet. A 3rd school record was broken by Caden Ehrhon (28), as the sophomore standout bested a stacked 800m field to break the tape in 1:54.15, just a tick faster than legendary Steve Kirkland (69) had done in 1969 on a cinder track at a dual meet in the very same stadium. Kirkland's mark had been the 2nd-longest standing record behind Terry Trumbly's (68) 110 hurdle record set in 1968. Other 2026 league championship highlights included Sean Parker's (26) long jump victory. The senior had already won the triple jump the preceding weekend. His younger brother, Denzel Parker (28), also scored in both events, including #7 all-time leap of 21 feet, 2.5 inches on Saturday to fuel a quickly growing point total in the team standings. Leading into the championships, Campolindo's varsity boys were underdogs behind defending champion Acalanes. However, dominating performances in the distance events, where the Cougars scored a whopping 68 points, provided a foundation upon which breakout victories from the likes of Malik Li (26) in the 110 hurdles and Micah Parker (26) in the 100m began to build a sizable advantage over their rivals. The final blow to the Dons' hopes of a repeat championship came as Gavin Gunn (27) along with Ehrhorn, Jack Durden (27), and Taejin Chung (26) gobbled up 23 points in the 3200m. Meanwhile, the varsity girls' outcome was never in doubt. The heavily favored Cougars were dominant in the sprints, led by quadruple event winner Jasmine McCasland (27) and double distance winner Claire Andrzejek (26). After claiming the long jump crown the previous weekend, McCasland ran a leg on the champion 4x100 relay before taking both the 400m and 200m titles. Andrzejek used her impressive closing speed to notch come-from-behind victories in both the 1600m and 800m. The 3rd individual champion for the Cougars was Sophia Moore (28), who regained her form in the pole vault to clear 11 feet, 6 inches. Gritty scoring efforts from Emma Stimmler (28) in both hurdle races and Sarah Graves (26) in the 100m and 200m ensured the rout over the rest of the contenders in the team competition.
