DFAL Meet vs. Alhambra, Miramonte Martinez Marina Martinez CA Wednesday, October 10, 2007 RESULTS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE Lean Cougar Machine Nearly Perfect on Marina Course against Rivals The Junior Varsity Boys' squad epitomized the new and improved attitude that appears to be laying hold of the Cougars as they begin the long push toward the post season in the second half of the fall schedule. Jarret Hendrickson (09) was fearless in his return to form, spear-heading a 15 point performance that crushed both opponents. With nearly half the roster held out for various ailments, those that made the trip to the Martinez Marina to face the rival Matts, as well as a young Alhambra squad, showed a competitive fierceness down to the last man... and woman. Heroic efforts from Danielle Karstetter (11) and Alison Crisp (10) to fend off Miramonte's fifth runner in the closing moments helped keep the Frosh Soph Girl's championship title hopes alive. Likewise, a breakthrough performance from Grant Caldwell (10) ensured his Frosh Soph teammates will be vying for the top podium spot come November. To finish off what easily qualified as the strongest team effort of the season for the Cougars, the Varsity girls rallied around a sensational first-time three mile debut from race winner Sara Mostatabi (11) to stay perfect in league competition. The day was capped by bold racing from Ross Geiger (09), and an impressive 15:23 win for Robert Pulford (09). With five finishers under 16:05, including three-mile rookie Paul Jackson (10), the boys' pack is emerging as a dark horse for the DFAL crown. |
