Weinberg Bolsters Boys' Pack; Cougars Cluster Five Under 17:00 at Stanford Ben Weinberg (14), like most of the varsity boys' squad, ran strong through the second half of Saturday's Stanford Invitational DIII race. His 37th place finish in the 230 athlete field, was good for fourth on the team, and helped them to a 3rd place team score. Adam Hathaway (13) continued to lead the squad, moving to 10th before crossing the line in 16:16. Michael Peterson (15) and Walter Brennan (14) worked together for most of the race while Kevin Fong (13) hung on to finish 40th. The warm weather was apparent, with top times significantly slower than last year. In 2011 a dozen athletes ran 16:01 or better, with the winner clocking 15:08. This year, only three athletes managed to break 16 minutes, with Miramonte's Tyler Hanson winning in 15:44. Rachel Johnson (15) overcame a conservative start, where she passed the mile mark in 25th place, to finish 11th in 19:21. Johnson was 5th among NCS competitors in the varsity girls' DIII race.
