Acalanes Halts JV Boys' Streak; Varsity, Frosh Soph Squads Sweep Center Meet The last team to beat the Campolindo junior varsity boys' squad before its 10-year, 132 consecutive league win streak began was Acalanes. The Dons achieved that feat at Lafayette Community Park on the afternoon of September 26, 2007. This past Wednesday afternoon, September 26, 2018, the Dons once again caught up to the Cougars' junior varsity, ending the Diablo Athletic League's all-time undefeated run with a 26-29 dual-score victory on the Hidden Valley Park 2-mile course. The Campolindo harriers did not go quietly. Leading the charge was 4-year veteran Charlie Woidat (19), who finished 2nd overall in his 1st appearance of the season. Also stepping up to defend the streak was Jack Pieper (21). The sophomore managed to set a new personal best for the distance by 16 seconds to grab 4th place. Alan Pierrat (21) was 3rd into the finish corral for the Cougars with a 12:34 clocking to take the 8th finishing position. Unfortunately, Acalanes stayed one step ahead of the Cougars through 4 scoring positions, finishing 1st, 3rd, 7th and 12th. While Arik Nashan (21) was able to slip just ahead of the Dons' 5th man to complete the team score, it was not enough to overcome the deficit. While the impressive run of league victories is over, the valiant effort of the 2018 squad should not be overlooked. The 5 scoring athletes for the Cougars collectively improved by over 6 minutes from their 2017 performance at the same meet! And it should also be noted that the junior varsity team beat the other 11 opponents in the race, keeping Campolindo in the hunt for another junior varsity DAL title. In the girls' junior varsity competition, Kira D'Iorio (19) lowered her 2017 mark for the 1st center meet by 1 minute and 14 seconds to finish 2nd overall, helping her squad win 11 of 12 match ups. With a 23-32 win over the Cougars, Northgate will now be the target upon which the junior varsity girls will set their sights for the remainder of the season. Angeni Lieben (22) used a strong 2nd mile to move up through the frosh soph girls' field and ultimately finish 9th in her season debut. Lieben was just one place behind frosh soph front runner Haelee Chung (22). Ally Loyet (22) made the biggest gains for the frosh soph squad, lower her 2-mile best by 40 seconds to finish in 17:12. The varsity girls' team received a boost from Alicia Hober (20), who took down Miramonte's Cassidy Haskell in the final 800 meters to pick up the 2nd overall finishing place. Racing 3 miles for the 1st time in her career, Sophie Webster (21) managed to outperform every other #2 runner in the league, finishing 7th in 20:40. Though top gun Paloma Hancock was sidelined with a hamstring pull, the varsity girls made quick work of their rivals to start their DAL season with a clean sweep. Also sweeping their respective fields, the frosh soph boys' and varsity boys' teams were dominant. Owen Lekki (21) returned to form in winning the frosh soph competition, just ahead of teammate Marco Chao (22). Finn Jordan (22) finished 11th to complete the scoring for the youngsters. The varsity boys showed their prowess with Cayden Hein (20), Dylan Cronin (20) and Cameron Iniguez-Reyes (19) finishing 4th, 6th and 11th, respectively, to complement the 2nd place performance of Edward Buckley (19).
