3200m Time Trial RESULTS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE
Early Heats Enjoy Cool Temps, Little Wind Under Lights at 3200m Time Trial Event Saturday evening began with the sun dropping behind the hillside as winds calmed, providing outstanding conditions for the first 5 heats of 3200m races under the lights at Bob Wilson Stadium. Unfortunately, athletes in the final 2 heats faced a headwind on the backstretch that made consistent pacing a challenge. Nevertheless, the event allowed for some much needed competition during the ongoing Corona virus pandemic, and many enjoyed measuring their progress after 6 weeks of training during the fall club program. Plus: PIZZA. The greatest gains were demonstrated by several freshmen on the girls' side, with Eva Canales (24) earning most improved status by virtue of a 15:50.5h performance for 8 laps. The mark is 92 seconds faster than her previous 3200 meter track best. An additional 6 freshmen girls also lowered their career marks, with Daisy Penney (24) just missing the 13-minute barrier, finishing in 13:01.62. Junior Thomas Singh (22) chased down the top boys' improvement of the evening, shaving 52 seconds from his previous 3200 meter effort while newcomer Alejandro Canales (22) missed breaking 11 minutes by just 2 seconds. Cole Hickey (24) was the top freshman boy on the rise, scoring a 38-second improvement to finish in 12:44.97. After cooling down, each training pod feasted on pizza and Gatorade in its respective "hospitality" area. |
