Boys Sweep League; JV Girls Rise to Win as Cougars Dominate DAL Championships With Camille Yabu (23) returning to form and Bryn Hober (23) providing another low stick, the junior varsity girls' squad outran the Matadors to claim the DAL Championships team victory on Saturday at Hidden Valley Park. The Cougars had suffered regular season losses to Miramonte at both of the preceding center meets, but managed to put all their scoring pieces together in order to forge a tie for the overall league title. The junior varsity boys' squad once again turned back their league rivals to earn their 13th consecutive championship win. Hardy Dolge (22) left little doubt about the individual victory, streaking away from the field early to post the fastest 2-mile time of the day. He was supported by 2nd and 3rd place finishes from Henry Jaffe (24) and Tyler Ngo (24), respectively. All-league honors were also secured by Ethan Cho (22) and Toby Barton (23), as the Cougars tallied just 19 points, 34 points ahead of 2nd-place College Park. The frosh soph boys, varsity girls, and varsity boys were also crowned champions. Baron Walsh (24) and Paulo Trento (24) finished 1-2 against their freshman and sophomore rivals while Chase Kivelson (24) finished a surprising 10th to secure the victory in the frosh soph boys' division. Kivelson's time of 12:17 is an improvement on the course by 1 minute and 21 seconds. The varsity teams took a measured approach to their final league competition, with the girls conceding to a course-record-setting performance from Acalanes' Olivia Williams. Nevertheless, their scoring finishers showed impressive poise, including Makena Weberski (24), who rose above her pre-race ranking to finish 6th in a new personal best on the course. Senior veteran Angeni Lieben (22) took over the varsity girls' 4th scoring position for the 1st time this season to earn all-league recognition. Their time of 19:29 moves them into the top 30 on the Campolindo record list for the Hidden Valley Park 3-mile course. The varsity boys held off a spirited challenge from College Park in spite of holding out key contributors from their regular season lineup. Part of the void was filled capably by freshman Maxon Cook (25), who has emerged as another contender for post-season racing as the Cougars look ahead to the section and state meets. While the frosh soph girls finished behind Las Lomas for a 3rd time this season, they narrowed the gap considerably with season-best performances from most of their roster. The biggest gains were made by Sydnie Fossen (24) and Natalie Falsafi (24) who each improved their course times by nearly 2 minutes. Julia Waide (24) also concluded her season with a bang, lowering her mark to 17:41. Far and away the most improved performance of the meet was turned in by Cheryl Potter (24), who crushed her previous time on the course by a stunning 3 minutes and 10 seconds.
