Moraga Girls Rise to 13th at Nike Cross Nationals; Buckley Leads Squad in 26th

By virtue of their stellar performance at the California State Championships the Campolindo varsity girls earned their opportunity to face off against the best cross country teams in the United States at the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland Oregon on Saturday, December 3.

After 2 days of lavish Nike sponsored activities in and around Beaverton, including a tour of the Nike corporate headquarters and a Q&A session with Olympic and World Championship veterans, the Cougars finally toed the line at Glendoveer Golf Course in exceptionally cold and windy conditions.

Ranked 18th coming into the competition, the Campolindo squad ran to a surprising 13th place finish in the elite field, led by senior Ellie Buckley (23), who capped the season with the finest race of her high school career. Finishing 26th overall, Buckley was the 2nd California finisher.

Shea Volkmer (24) turned in another consistent effort to hold down the #2 position while Sloan Pullen (25) returned to form to finish as the Cougar's 3rd scorer.

Rachel Moen (24) wrapped up her sensational debut season just ahead of the Kate Kabenina (24), who once again complete the team scoring.
