Boys Outrun League Rivals in Final DAL Center Meet; Girls Sweep All Divisions

After clashing twice previously in the preceding 2 weeks, the Campolindo varsity boys' faced off yet again with their cross-town rivals to determine the final league standings heading into the November championships. While the Cougars had bettered Miramonte in the overall team results at the Rough Rider Invitational on October 18, and again at the Mid-Season Mania 3200m Invitational on October 23, in both instances it was the Matadors who won the dual scoring.

As is the case for all league center meets, Wednesday's competition at Newhall Park would use dual scoring to determine team placing, and the Cougars would need to match up more favorably at each scoring position to have a chance at remaining undefeated.

It turned out, they were more than up for the challenge. While Caden Ehrhorn (28), Gavin Gunn (27), Maxson Cook (25), and the rest of the Campolindo squad appeared content to settle in on the heels of the leaders through the 1st mile, they proceeded to pick up vital scoring advantages at nearly every position against Miramonte through the final 2 miles of the race.

Most impressive was the move made by Josiah Beardsley (25), who surged into the 4th scoring slot and 10th place overall to give his squad an insurmountable advantage. The 8-point win over both Miramonte and College Park propelled the varsity boys to another perfect regular season record and sets up an epic showdown between 3 of the best teams in the North Coast Section at the DAL Championships meet on November 9.

Even with key athletes sidelined with injury, the girls' team also swept their respective divisions on Wednesday. The varsity girls were emphatic in their victory while both the frosh soph and junior varsity squads held on for narrow victories. The girls' youngsters beat Northgate 27-29 to jump back into league title contention and Anjali Rao (27) and Erifili Vassilopoulos (26) were the heroes of their JV squad with massive improvements that helped to hold off Las Lomas and finish the season 24-0.
