Cougars Earn 6 Titles with 5-1 Finish at DAL Champs; Boys Avenge 2023 Loss In the penultimate race of the afternoon, the varsity boys turned away challenges from 2 of the top teams in the section to reclaim the Diablo Athletic League championship meet crown on Saturday at Hidden Valley Park. Gavin Gunn (27) assumed the top spot for the Cougars, leading a 3-man string of blue and white across the line to claim the 4th, 5th, and 6th places in the race. Maxson Cook (25) and Jack Durden (27) closed out the scoring in 10th and 12th place, respectively, helping to provide the 3rd fastest team-time performance on the course in school history. The varsity girls wrapped up the competition with a convincing win against a motivated field that included a plucky pack effort from Northgate and front-running individual win from Las Lomas' Lily Montilla. The sophomore trio of Kiona McCasland (27), Amalia Contreras (27), and Kaitlyn Kinsey (27) snatched the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th places. The final "all-league" honor was picked up by Amalia Houston (26), who assumed the #4 scoring position for the Cougars. Earlier in the day, the frosh soph boys kicked things off for the squad with a 41-point victory over their nearest rivals. Taiyo Chiba (27) and Samuel Hearn (27) ran unchallenged to the top 2 finishing positions while Koen Pretzlaf (28), Nikola Van Delft (27), and Anton Klisura (27) placed 5th, 6th, and 7th to shut the door on the rest of the league. The frosh soph girls followed by completing their season-long comeback with an 11-point margin over Miramonte to claim sole possession of the league title. Mykenzie Fung (28) took the tape with teammate Nora Lawrence (27) close behind in 2nd. Another year was added to the longest championship win streak in league history as the junior varsity boys dropped the Cougars' lowest score of the day. With 19 points, the squad pushed its title tally since 2007 to 16. Cody De La Cruz (26) was the top gun with a historically fast time of 10:44, the 23rd best in school history. Like the frosh soph boys, the JV team put all 5 scorers in the top 7, including a sweep of the top 3 as Taejin Chung (26) and Nolan Henwood (25) followed De La Cruz through the finish. While the junior varsity girls finished 2nd in their race, their undefeated regular season record helped them forge a tie at the top of the final league standings. Claire Anderzejek (26) provided a sweep of the non-varsity individual crowns for Campolindo, finishing in 13:40. The most improved performances came from Mai Lam Nguyen (27) and Erifili Vassilopoulos (27) on the girls' side and Ryan LaMarche (28) and Kai Bobell (28) on the boys'. LaMarche's improvement on the course by 4 minutes and 47 seconds was 22% faster than their last Hidden Valley Park 2-mile race.
