Ehrhorn-Gregory Duo Pilot Cougars to National Lead in Hoka Postal 2-Mile

In one of the most spectacular performances in Campolindo sports history, the Cougars dropped a staggering 9:20 average for their top-5 finishers at Wednesday evening's Mid-Season Mania 3200m Invitational hosted in Bob Wilson Stadium. Cool temperatures and zero wind made for optimal conditions as the state's top-ranked Division 3 squad flexed its depth and claimed the national lead in the Hoka Postal 2-Mile Championships.

While the final heat of the day featured Branham's Alijah Murillo as the top seed, it was Caden Ehrhorn (28) who energized the pace after a surprisingly slow 1st turn around the oval. Clark Gregory (27) joined his teammate at the font shortly thereafter and the race was on. Though Murillo did attempt to take the lead in the 2nd mile, the Campolindo duo simply refused to defer to the favorite and eventually pulled away, breaking the tape in 9:10.80 and 9:11.46, respectively.

Perhaps even more shocking were the closing laps of Nikola Van Delft (27) and Gavin Gunn (27), who nearly caught the Branham star as they posted 1st-time sub-9:20 marks to help land their squad 4 of the top 5 finishing places.

Just 10 seconds later, Jack Durden (27) and Chase Nickens (28) barreled over the finish to give the boys 5 in the top 10 and 6 in the top 11.

Prior to this incredible result, the Cougars had already posted what would eventually stand up as top-20 performances in the preceding heat as Cody De La Cruz (26) streaked away from the field with an convincing 9:33.09 win and Taiyo Chiba (27) and Samuel Hearn (27) snuck under the 9:40 mark. Drew Shogan claimed the 20th overall finish on the night at 9:47.59.

The Cougars' team time of 46:91 is now #1 on the Hoka Postal 2-Mile national rankings with the competition set to close on November 2.

Other notable performances included a season debut by Claire Andrzejek (26), who provided the 4th-best mark for the girls at 11:40.86, and a 37-second improvement over last year's time by Anjali Rao (26). The biggest PR was turned in by Jonah Char (28), who lowered his mark by 2 minutes and 24 seconds.
