All Squads Stay Perfect at Northgate Dual; Volkmer Rolls to State-Leading 1600m

While a mild head wind down the homestretch persisted for most of the meet, the conditions at Northgate High School for the Cougars 2nd DAL competition of the year were much improved from the rain-soaked prior week.

The meet began with fireworks in the varsity girls' 1600m race where Shea Volkmer (24) managed to lap runners en route to a sensational 4:49.70 clocking that vaults her to the top of the state leader board. The mark is also now the 3rd fastest in school history.

Volkmer was followed across the finish line by Daisy Penney (24) who earned her own improvement by cracking the 5:10 barrier for the 1st time. The duo returned to the rack just minutes later to take the top spots in the 400m.

Varsity newcomer Jasmine McCasland (27) continued her impressive debut season with a pair of wins in the short sprints. Her 26.58 finish in the 200m is 10th all-time.

In the field, Pinkie Schnayer (24) added distance to her 3rd-all-time discus mark to win in convincing fashion. The senior also claimed the shot put victory with another 40-foot toss.

The varsity boys were fueled by record-board performances from Thomas Berg (26), who first leaped over 20 feet to win the long jump competition before taking the tape in the 200m sprint in 22.45.

With a rare record-list performance on the frosh-soph level, Sierra Worster (26) cleared 9 feet in the pole vault, adding a foot her career best.

In the team scoring, the Cougars managed to complete a 2nd-straight sweep, keeping each squad undefeated in the DAL standings.
