July 19, 2024 Harriers Connect, Commit at Run Camp
18 Campolindo athletes joined over 100 prep runners from across the western United States for a week of intensive training and learning from elite coaches and athletes at the Cal Poly Humboldt Distance Running camp from July 14 through July 19. The annual trip included seminars on training, racing strategies, mental toughness, nutrition, recovery, as well as running skill development and the steeplechase.
Highlights included the Clam Beach run, where athletes forded a river before finishing their day in the epic Pacific surf. For many, the Tall Trees Trail along Redwood Creek offered the longest and most beautiful running experience of a lifetime.
Time was also spent determining goals for the upcoming season and recommiting to consistent training for the remainder of the summer.
Of course, the marathon week was capped by the steeplechase exhibition and donut relay.
November 2, 2024 Fartlek Workout Preps Squad for Champs
Switching up the weekly training pattern in the 12th week of the season, the Cougars traded in the Saturday long run for a higher-intensity mystery fartlek workout on the gravel paths of Newhall Park on November 2.
The 8am start time provided cool temperatures and open trails as the team divided itself into 9 separate workout groups based on current performance levels. Each member of the group was responsible for executing 1 or more pace changes as the harriers sharpened both physical and mental racing attributes in advance of the looming league championships.
Over the course of 50 minutes, the goal was to notice and cover moves made by other athletes in the group as efficiently as possible.
